What is the best vacuum cleaner for getting up dog hair?

We have 5 dogs, and some carpeted areas. We have spent more money on vacuums than I care to admit. Oddly enough, the best one is this 15+ year old Eureka canister vacuum that we still have.

What have you found the best vacuum cleaner for pet hair to be? I don’t really want to spend $600 on a Kirby, but I’m open to spending something as long as I get a machine that really, uh, *****.

The vacuum we use is Dyson “The Animal”. We have 2 cats and 1 big dog, and it makes our carpet look brand new when we vacuum. Only downside, it is about $600.00

They actually make vacuum cleaners now that specifically say on the packaging that they are for pet hair removal. I have one myself that I bought at K-Mart for about 70 dollars, and it has been a great help!! I wish I could remember the brand name, but it slips my mind right now. But as I said, look on the box for ones that say that they are for pet hair removal.

dyson, does a good job and not too expensive!

Bissel Pet Hair Vac. It is bagless and works wonders on our carpets -we have 2 cats and a dog. $179 at Walmart.
I have heard Dyson’s are great but cost upwards of $600.

Get a Dyson! I have one and I’d fight anyone who tried to take it from me! lol I have 3 golden’s here and it has been a life saver and a back saver!
They are worth every penny you spend on them!

well, Kirby genoration 5, wasnt too expensive, just as good as my current gen. 8, not much diffrence, sep the speed and noise, both great cleaners! (Kirby gen. 8 approx $700, gen. 5 about… umm…. $500, i think, im not sure i got it that long ago XD!. oh and, i used to have a dyson, not the greatest at my collie hair, but i did have 6….. mass hair build up killed it, but it was sooooo cool while it lasted.)

I’m a HUGE fan of our Dyson Animal. It’s in the same price point as the Kirby. Our neighbor has the Kirby and she thinks ours works better.
The first time we vaccumed with the Dyson, we were totally grossed out at the amount of “stuff” that came up…we did ONE ROOM and had to empty the container.
Well worth the money….and if you get it at Bed Bath and Beyond, you can use one of their 20% off coupons too!

We have a Dyson and it was the best purchase ever. It picks up our dog’s hair and any other particle on the floor. Highly recommended
